Brick Pavers
Some of the most attractive finishes for paths and driveways can be made with brick pavers or clay pavers. These have
some significant advantages over a poured concrete driveway. They are:
- Longer lasting
- Stronger
- Better for load distribution
- Easier to replace
- Cheaper to repair
If your driveway is professionally designed and installed it should not shift with use, or crack, separate or
sag. The base onto which it is installed is the key to this. It should have a sound foundation of
crushed stone. If the driveway does ever have a problem, individual pavers can be taken out and replaced, making it
look as good as new.
Very often the choice of what type of paver to use will also be influenced by some other architectural element
such as a paved patio. In this case it would make sense to use the same material for the driveway as was selected
for the patio pavers.
As well as the brick and clay pavers, concrete pavers, travertine pavers, permeable
pavers and tumbled pavers are very popular. They come in all shapes, sizes and colors and can easily be
matched to your other hardscape features. They have many of the advantages of the other types of pavers
and can look just as attractive.
When you are planning your landscape, ask your designer to suggest a suitable material and color scheme and to
provide you with samples to see how the finished product will look.
